We made it over the Pyrenees tired but happy. Now in Spain, 965 miles (1540km) from Brighton with Barcelona only two days away.
But the really good news has come from Portugal where our friend Luís Aguiar has been working hard for Tiago's cause. He sent me this email update below. I think you will agree with us that it is truly amazing what Luis has achieved at "mission control" off the back of what started as two old school mates on a simple bike ride. What you have been doing has put fire in our bellies on the tough climbs.
This week's achievements:
* We have 7250 followers on Facebook (172 a week ago)
* SATA international offered the airline tickets free for flights to the USA for Tiago and his Mum.
* We had 1 hour live in a major TV program
* The leading TV commentator, Marcelo, former leader of PSD party, mentioned the ride on prime news
* Several journalists contacted us to do articles, documentaries, etc, at
the time of arrival
* We collected a lot of money (not sure how much, but well into the many thousands)
* I prepared a text to be sent to the President of Portugal to intervene. He got dozens of emails (if not hundreds)
* I prepared a message to be put in his Facebook page. Dozens of people are doing it
* A Facebook page for Tiago was launched in the US
* Registered letter detailing the case sent by registered mail to the
President of the National Medical Society
* At least 3 bike events being organized in Portugal this Sunday at 11 am (Porto, Cascais that's me, Aveiro and Viseu). TV will be present in Cascais.
* Thousands of comments, all favourable and supportive in Facebook.
Have a good rest, hombre! Regards to Chris.
Luís
