The day Chris and I had been training for for 6 months (the climb up the Pyrenees) went like a dream.
We were blessed with crystal clear blue skies and once over 1500m we cycled across the high meadows with a strong tail wind. For once we loved our panniers, which were spinaker-like. (sp?)
The mountain views were humbling and dramatic. We sang loudly and badly. This was cyclist's heaven.
But to reach those heights we had left early and climbed solidly all day. The climb was unrelenting but not excessively steep, but hot. We burnt over 7,500 calories and climbed over 2,000m during 9 hours on the road, so it was a big day for us two.
So, we are very tired this evening, with a "down-up-down" day tomorrow that looks different, but challenging. Praying the incredible weather lasts and looking forward to Espana tomorrow and a few more Tiago donations than the French have made. (still 0.00 euros)
Both feeling very lucky to have had the opportunity to do this once in a lifetime ride across France this evening.
